Fraudulent Check Scam Alert

We have recently learned of a check fraud scheme using Cooper-Standard Automotive’s name. The perpetrators of this scheme employ a “secret shopper” and “lottery” scheme falsely using Cooper-Standard Automotive’s name and issuing fraudulent checks that appear to be, but are not, issued by Cooper-Standard Automotive. In both cases, the potential victim is directed to deposit the fraudulent check into their bank account, retain a portion and then wire the majority of the amount to the perpetrators. The check is not a Cooper-Standard check and has no value.

The checks will be declined by the bank as counterfeit leaving the recipient liable for the funds and possibly fees from their bank. Any funds wired to the perpetuators cannot be retrieved thereby leaving the recipient as the victim of fraud.

We recommend that recipients of these letters not respond to the letters or phone calls from the perpetrators, or attempt to cash the fraudulent checks. We do ask that they forward the check, letter and envelope to us at Cooper-Standard Automotive, Internal Audit, 39550 Orchard Hill Place, Novi, MI 48375.
