Choosing Rubber Adhesives

In most instances, the use of tape can eliminate mechanical fastening systems and reduce assembly costs.

There are two types of tape/lamination systems: Heat Activated Tape (HATS) and Pressure Sensitive Adhesives (PSA). For permanent applications, the HATS is generally used.  

When mechanical fasteners are used, the acrylic and rubber-based PSA lamination methods can be used to hold the gasket in place during assembly. Acrylic lamination works best on painted or fiberglass surfaces while the rubber-based lamination works better on aluminum, bare metal and stainless steel.

• They type of surface (substrate) the tape be applied to
• How much surface area is available for tape application
