Community
Cooper-Standard and its employees have a strong history of giving back to the community. We support many local charities such as United Way, American Red Cross, food banks, Big Brothers - Big Sisters, Project Gain, Make-A-Wish, Marines Helping Marines and many more through special fund raisers throughout the year. Our employees have contributed over $500,000 in the last three years alone.
Cooper-Standard's good corporate citizenship isn't reflected in financial measures alone. We also reach out to the community in many other ways by donating our time to special causes. For example, we have created a special program called "Inspirations" for middle school students. “Inspirations” is a set of eight fun hands-on workshops, 2 ½ hours each, delivered once a month by Cooper-Standard engineers and technical employees. The program utilizes exercises taught to adult engineers within Cooper’s Lean and Six Sigma training, but are modified for middle school learners, and is designed to promote math and science with an emphasis on teamwork, understanding requirements, and planning. Ultimately, the hope is that the program will fuel an interest in pursuing engineering, mathematics and technology as a future career.
Recently, Cooper-Standard extended its charitable reach beyond its sponsorship of the North American International Auto Show by announcing the company’s charitable partnership with Mitch Albom and his charities. Cooper-Standard is the 2008 Corporate Partner to the Mitch Albom Charities, and first to take-on the role of his annual partner. Cooper-Standard presented Mitch with $50,000 during the Charity Preview evening to become the lead donor in the building of a medical center for the children of Detroit’s homeless. In addition to this initial donation, Cooper-Standard will coordinate fundraising activities throughout the year and will work to secure other corporate donations for the medical center. |
