Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging

At Cooper Standard, we value the differing perspectives of our global team through an inclusive culture that welcomes and celebrates a diverse workforce. Cooper Standard’s focus on a diverse workforce and our dedication to employee development make us a more innovative team and enables us to grow and expand our business globally.

We are continually looking for ways to advance in these areas and leverage our diversity of thought to further the strength of our team. Our commitment to diversity, inclusion and belonging is defined and affirmed in our DIB statement “Valuing the Perspectives and Leveraging the Strengths of All Employees”. We are upholding our commitment by:

  • Creating a recruiting culture that attracts a diverse talent pool and hires the right person for the right job no matter their diversity;
  • Investing in programs to develop and retain a diverse workforce;
  • Creating forums for all voices to be heard;
  • Auditing for exclusionary norms, processes, policies and inequities;
  • Providing opportunities for employees to be aware of their unconscious biases and learn about and celebrate others’ differences;
  • Helping all employees feel physically and psychologically safe; and
  • Improving and supporting the communities where we work and live.

These efforts are supported by our internal Affinity Groups which bring employees together, and drive community service and engagement through partnerships with schools and minority developmental programs. Our Diversity and Inclusion efforts include engagement and inclusion activities, creating / supporting employee affinity groups,  diversity and awareness training, recognition programs, community involvement opportunities and total rewards programs.

Our commitment to diversity, inclusion and belonging also extends into our supplier relationships. We expect our supply partners to uphold the same levels of integrity and respect within their companies as outlined in our Supplier Code of Conduct. In addition, we are committed to developing strong relationships with diverse suppliers including minority-owned, women-owned and veteran-owned business enterprises. We view supplier diversity as a strategic business advantage and an important element of our core values

Michigan Veteran Friendly Employer

Cooper Standard was named a Veteran Friendly Employer by the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA), earning silver status.

MVAA’s Veteran Friendly Employer program helps qualified organizations recruit and retain top veteran talent while providing others a road map to improve their recruitment efforts. The organization recognizes employers that commit to military veteran recruitment, training and retention practices by awarding those employers gold, silver and bronze level status as Veteran Friendly Employers.

Cooper Standard is proud to support the men and women who have served the United States by helping them put their unique skill sets to work when they complete their service. Cooper Standard meets and sometimes exceeds the requirements to achieve silver status, which includes a new veteran hire benchmark, posting veteran friendly job postings and advertisements, recruitment efforts and apprenticeship or training programs.
